In the dynamic field of architecture, fostering talent and cultivating a lasting legacy are paramount. Heather Barnsley, our Senior Registered Architect and owner, champions the establishment of a robust Corporate Mentorship Framework at T.i. STUDIOS. This structured program supports the growth of emerging Architects, Interior Designers, Project Managers, and Technologists while preserving our firm's core values and knowledge base.
Central to this framework are internal collaborative groups, fostering a culture of teamwork and knowledge sharing across all levels of staff. Student internships further enrich this environment by providing hands-on experience under seasoned mentors, preparing future professionals for successful careers in architecture.

By nurturing talent and promoting a legacy mindset, our Corporate Mentorship Framework strengthens our firm's impact and contributes to the evolving architectural landscape.

Indigenous Community Involvement

Reconciliation Through Education

Before becoming an architect and owner, Heather Barnsley started her career as a high school teacher at Peepeekisis Cree Nation in Saskatchewan. Her foundational values as an architect and business owner stem from these teaching experiences. At T.i. STUDIOS, one of our core missions is to empower through mentorship, knowledge, and education, both within our team and externally to clients and the community.

In 2023, Heather initiated discussions with a Saskatchewan Indigenous Nation to establish an internship program bringing Indigenous youth into our firm for summer terms. These talks highlighted a limited pool of Indigenous youth trained in architecture. Recognizing the root cause as lack of exposure, discussions shifted to creating educational initiatives to introduce architectural careers to Indigenous youth. Collaborating with industry and educational professionals, as well as Nation Band Members, we are developing a curriculum to be finalized by Winter/Spring 2024, secure funding by Spring/Summer 2024, and roll out the curriculum by September 2026.

This initiative aims to bridge the gap by providing educational pathways and mentorship opportunities in architecture, engineering, interior design, project management, and architectural technologies.
