Project Details

The Settler's Block project in Canmore, Alberta, is a three-storey mixed-use development that integrates commercial and residential spaces while respecting the design character and historical context of Canmore. This project balances modern architectural solutions with the town's established aesthetic, ensuring that the building complements the surrounding built environment.
The ground floor includes two commercial retail units, designed to serve both local residents and visitors. The second and third floors house eight two-bedroom residential units, each featuring exterior balconies that offer views of the surrounding landscape. A rooftop terrace is accessible via a stairwell, providing communal outdoor space for residents.
A key consideration in the design of Settler's Block was maintaining the architectural feel of Canmore, which is rooted in the town's mining history and connection to its natural surroundings. The building incorporates materials and forms that align with Canmore's existing architectural language while introducing modern, energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials to reduce environmental impact. By combining commercial functionality with residential comfort, Settler's Block contributes to the ongoing development of Canmore without detracting from the historical and visual continuity that the town values.
In addition to architectural services, T.i. STUDIOS provided Interior Design services, ensuring that the interiors of both the commercial and residential spaces reflect the same balance of modernity and tradition. The interior design focused on creating functional yet inviting spaces, with a strong emphasis on natural materials, durability, and comfort, further enhancing the building's contribution to Canmore's urban fabric.
